In its second year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 50 nonprofit organizations across the country. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations. Over the next couple of months, the recipient organizations’ stories of impact will be shared on LozierLink.
The Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart County serves youth around the area from first grade to high school seniors. With an activity for everyone, groups are split into age group rooms and dedicated spaces like a gym and canteen are also available. Primarily open after school and during the summer, more than 300 children attend the Middlebury location alone, while 2,800 are served across the county.
“We just provide kids with a place to be in a community and a home away from home,” said Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart County CEO Tammy Hicks. “We provide them with innovative programing, opportunities to play sports on teams and compete against other clubs and meals for everyone, especially important during the summer.”
The organization will use the Lozier Community Grant to support the Middlebury club’s recently renovated STEM space, where students learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and more. Maintaining education supplies for that area is critical and the funding ensures instructors and students will have what they need to explore the worlds of STEM.
