A middle school in Council Bluffs, Iowa is providing students snippets of future careers. Kirn Middle School’s program teaches a number of program pathways that include small insights into careers in: drone technology, health sciences, child care, biomedical, computer programming & design, lifetime nutrition, education and many other career options.
Lozier’s Community Outreach & Engagement Manager Ralph Kleinsmith visited the unique middle school program Monday, sharing information about welding and manufacturing along with discussing the great careers available in Skilled Trades.
“We are the only program like this in Iowa and Nebraska at the junior high school level,” the class’s teacher Mat Daniels said. “Offered for six and seventh graders, we give them a snippet of a module and a career pathway to think about before they get to high school and head toward a possible career path.
Kleinsmith visited with eight classes, speaking to 165 students in the school’s program. He remarked that these were some of the most engaged students he has visited to discuss what future careers in Manufacturing look like.
Kirn Middle School’s program feeds into the Trade Works Academies for Abraham Lincoln High School, another Council Bluffs high school Lozier partners with in building the next generation of manufacturing talent.
