In its second year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 50 nonprofit organizations across the country. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations. Over the next couple of months, the recipient organizations’ stories of impact will be shared on LozierLink.
Life Resource Services of Jackson County started in 2016 as a place for unhoused, recently incarcerated or those who need help to come and receive a meal, do laundry, learn life skills and more. Anyone can come to their location in Scottsboro, Alabama to have a cool or warm place to be for a few hours, take a shower or receive a hot meal.
“The amount of people we serve fluctuates day to day and depending on the weather,” said Executive Director Leeinda Bachelor. “We provide a safe space and some necessities that many take for granted to whoever needs it.”
Other services include workforce development and safety classes along with resume writing and basic computer skills to help people get out into the community and back in the workforce.
Its Headstart Program was supported with a Lozier Community Grant and aims to reach children and families that need clothing, groceries and supplies to thrive in school and beyond.
“The way that we see it is we want to give these kids the same opportunities that other children have,” Bachelor said. “We want to offer them new clothes that they can be proud of, and to go into school and daycare confident, not wearing something that may have holes in it or may not fit them correctly.”
