In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact.
Girls on the Run’s Nebraska chapter has a presence in 42 schools around the state. Lozier’s community grant supported Fontenelle Elementary school’s program in North Omaha. The after-school club teaches three pillars in its semester-based program along with sharing a love of running with the girls.
Head coach Amy Cobbs is in her third season running the club at Fontenelle Elementary. With 12- 16 practices each season, each practice is based around a theme. It starts with a small activity that builds on the larger idea for the day. When Lozier visited, the students were writing cards and packing snack bags for the elderly.
“At the end of practice, we go out and run using our happy pace,” Cobbs said. “We work on our happy pace all season and we end by participating in a local 5K. It’s very empowering hearing teachers say the girls are using the language they are learning in their run club and building their social skills outside the club.”
Lozier’s Community Grant supported general activities for the Fontenelle Girls on The Run Club. The grant will also support the scholarship that covers the cost of attending for students over the next two seasons.
