Jimtown Unified Sports gathers students of all abilities to compete in track and flag football with the help of Lozier Community Grants

In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact. Applications for 2025 Lozier Community Grants are now open through May 30, 2025; encourage nonprofits to apply here.

Jimtown High School started its first Unified Sports League in 2023. Beginning with Track and Field, Jimtown will expand its program to include flag football. Jimtown Unified Sports started this program in conjunction with the Indiana High School Sports Association and Special Olympics. Unified Sports brings together students with and without physical and intellectual disabilities, allowing them to compete together and form friendships through sport.

“We push inclusivity, everybody has worth and is worth including into whatever group or situation you have,” said Coach Troy Bontrager. “Unified Sports just allows us to have a team where everybody is welcome, boys and girls, no matter what your abilities are, you can come compete on the sports teams and earn a letter for your jacket.”

Lozier’s Community Grant helped Bontrager purchase new equipment and kits for the inaugural flag football season. It will also help promote Jimtown’s new Unified Sports program, inviting anyone to join the team and compete. Bontrager says that while there are only 12 kids in the program this year, the grant will impact thousands of students on the teams for years to come.
