In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact.
Lewistown United Ministries in Neighborhood Action (LUMINA) is a community center which offers the light of faith, hope and love to the children, youth and families of Mifflin County. Based in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, LUMINA serves around 400 children each year through its after school and summer kids programs, evening activities and power packs snack program.
The LUMINA center has been providing its free kids programing and adult coffee hours to the community since 1995. Director Scott Yetter has been with the organization in some capacity since its inception, volunteering with various youth programs or wherever needed until 2020 when he became the Director.
“I love kids and I think that’s the heart of all of us here,” Yetter said. “I have kids and grand kids of my own and its an awesome thing to give back to the kids in the communities around us here. And the community responds positively to the work we do. If we need items for our snack pack program or anything else, the community makes sure we have what we need.”
Yetter says its special to know that the LUMINA center has the community’s support in providing their educational or food programs to Mifflin County. He also said Lozier’s Community Grant support of LUMINA’s general operations will allow them to grow and reach more people in the community through all of its service
