McClure area Summer Seals program designed to prevent ‘summer slump’ receives Lozier Community Grant

In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact. Applications for 2025 Lozier Community Grants are now open through May 30, 2025; encourage nonprofits to apply here.

A summer program designed to prevent a summer slump, 30 children each year participate in a seven-week summer camp at no cost to the families. A partnership between the Snyder County School systems, Greater Susquehanna University and the Summer Seals, students who need extra support can keep their minds and bodies active until the coming school semester.

Supporting better educational outcomes for students, board member and Snyder County District Attorney Heath Brosius says the Summer Seals makes a huge impact over the last 18 years, engaging children and keeping them on the path to success.

“Sometimes that one relationship, that one positive experience, can change the trajectory of any life,” Brosius said. “These children experience this program in a wonderful, wonderful way every summer, and when they leave, they have good experiences to point back to, and that can make the difference.”
