Mifflin County Youth Fair Upgrades Facilities to Provide a Better Experience for Kids and Animals Thanks to Lozier Community Grants

In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations.

These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact shared on LozierLink.

Animal agriculture is the way of life for many families in the heart of Pennsylvania. Nowhere is that pride and passion more apparent than Mifflin County’s Youth Fair. Be it cattle, chicken or any other livestock, taking home the top prize truly means a lot. With the growth of the fair’s popularity continuing, event leaders were forced to be creative with their available space and electrical capacity.

Last year, Lozier’s Community Grants program funded the purchase and construction of brand-new, all-metal goat pens for the fairgrounds, providing a safe and secure place for the prizewinning animals to reside in and allowing the students taking part to focus more on the competition.

This year, an electrical upgrade was essential for the growing fair. The Youth Fair upgraded its electrical service with the help of the Lozier Community Grants by purchasing and installing a new, higher capacity electrical service and main breaker.

“By upgrading the electrical service, we will be able to have bigger entertainment, more vendors and specialty shows without blowing our circuit breakers and losing power,” President Jason Hunter said. “Supporting more concessions is important because we rent those vendor spaces out which helps keep the cost down for the kids so they can focus on their 4-H and exhibition activities.”
