North 24th Street Business Improvement District uses Lozier Community Grant to promote community, culture and economic development

In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact. Applications for 2025 Lozier Community Grants are now open through May 30, 2025; encourage nonprofits to apply here.

A well-kept garden in the middle of North Omaha is the heart of the North 24th Street Business Improvement District (BID) Association’s operations. Launching street clean-ups three times a year from the city garden, the North 24th St. BID focuses on beautifying the historic neighborhood and providing a clean space for residents.

When special events pop up along the corridor, such as the Juneteenth parade celebrated by tens of thousands, the BID needs some extra help cleaning up from the celebration. The Lozier Community Grant supports the association’s Litter Control Program, enhancing visitors’ experiences and encouraging community pride.

“Neighborhood beautification has an exponential effect – it gets people together, you learn about others and meet people within the community,” said Board President LaVonya Goodwin. “It’s the engagement through our programs that brings community unification. We can see the impact we are making as each year goes by. This is setting the stage for economic and business growth, as well as attracting people back to the area.”
