Rosalie Community Center continues as the ‘beating heart’ of the small town through Lozier Community Grants

In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact. Applications for 2025 Lozier Community Grants are now open through May 30, 2025; encourage nonprofits to apply here.

The Rosalie Community Center is the backbone connecting the town of Rosalie, Alabama, where fewer than 700 people live. A crucial service during the devastating tornado of 2016, the center was open all day for multiple weeks, serving meals and as a site for residents to gather.

The Lozier Community Grant will support the community center’s continued operations. Once a month, the group hosts a breakfast for all to come and gather once a month. Its connected park hosts a trail and stage for its annual music festival. Secretary Marlene Kroger says the community center is the beating heart of this small community.

“It’s an important place for our community,” Marlene Kroger said. “When we had the tornado disaster, it was humbling to watch so many people use this space to care for others. We also host local, state and federal elections here along with recovery meetings and our weekly community breakfast.”
