In its third year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 57 nonprofit organizations across the country in 2024. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations. These are the 2024 recipient organizations’ stories of impact.
Shelter Service has been operating for more than 35 years in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Offering beds for up to 20 men and 20 women, Shelter Service’s goals aim to reduce homelessness, enhance and improve independence and life skills, and has thrift stores providing clothing to everyone and volunteer work experience.
“Lozier’s Community Grant last year helped a man who was intellectually delayed. After housing him for a year as a paying tenant in our apartments, he was able to reconnect with family and move into his sister’s house, which has been really beneficial for him,” Executive Director Jane Neff said. “It is always wonderful to get another grant and this year it will help us replace some windows that are no longer functioning.”
The Shelter Service’s long-standing building needs efficiency and security upgrades by replacing the building’s old windows, many of which no longer lock. Neff says that replacing the windows will improve the building’s security with better locks. It will also reduce operating expenses through energy efficiency and improve the facility’s longevity and comfort for residents in a homeless crisis.
