Scottsboro City Schools increases mental health support with Lozier Community Grant

In its second year, the employee-led Lozier Community Grant program supported 50 nonprofit organizations across the country. Recipients were selected by employee committees in all five Lozier locations.  Over the next couple of months, the recipient organizations’ stories of impact will be shared on LozierLink.

With an increased focus on mental health issues and a need in the community, Scottsboro City Schools will use its Lozier Community Grant funding to support its mental health programs. Assistant Superintendent and former Mental Health Director Jason Hass knew that greater access to mental health opportunities in the six city schools was necessary.

“We needed to provide services for our parents so that they can understand the importance of mental health and what they can do to help their children,” Hass said. “We realized that community partners like Lozier would be a place to go to possibly help us provide the services and materials necessary for our parents and our kids.”

The Lozier Community Grant helped Scottsboro City Schools expand the mental health services it had already set up through city funding. Hass says that community partners supporting mental health programs in its schools are important and their impact reaches more than 2,400 students.
